The Fun Four Stages Of Hot Shots

Hot Shots is a lot of fun and it’s a great way to encourage your kids to maintain an active lifestyle. Apart from skills like agility, flexibility and speed, the program will help your kids learn vital social skills, and they will make lots of friends along the way.

To ensure your child is playing at a level that’s right for them, the Hot Shots program has four stages designed to suit every age and ability:

The Blue (Launch Pad) stage introduces children to tennis through games and fun activities. Children learn the basics of tennis, including how to rally. This stage really helps children develop fundamental motor skills such as: throwing, running, catching, jumping and most importantly, tracking. There are a number of program options at this stage but it’s a great way for kids to start tennis while having fun.
Court Size: Variable
Tennis Ball: Red Ball (25% Compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 19–23 Inches

The Red stage is for beginners. The red ball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller and easier for kids to move around.
Court Size: 3m × 8.23m or 6m × 10.97 m
Tennis Ball: Red Ball (25% Compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 21–23 Inches

After mastering the Red stage, children move on to the Orange stage, where the ball bounces a little higher (50% compression) and the court is a bit bigger. Kids continue to develop their skills in a modified tennis environment, while having a really good time.
Court Size: 6.4m × 18.29m
Tennis Ball: Orange Ball (50% Compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 23–25 Inches

The ball used in the Green stage has a higher compression (75% of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court.
Court Size: 10.97m × 23.78m (full court)
Tennis Ball: Green Ball (75% compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 25–27 Inches

Please note the recommended ages are a guide only and as such our nationally accredited coaches will make a decision in your child’s best interests as to which stage of tennis they are ready to progress to.

Yellow Stage (ages 12+)

Yellow stage is not an official stage in the Hot Shots Program but it marks the time when a child is ready to play on full size courts with the normal yellow tennis ball. Once your child is at this stage, they are ready for our yellow ball programs.
Court Size: 10.97m × 23.78m (full court)
Tennis Ball: Yellow Ball (Standard compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 25–27 Inches
